Chronicles of Beckle

 The history of West Virginia began at the 1861 Wheeling Convention.  This Convention was an assembly aimed to repeal the Ordinance of Sucession made during the American Civil War (1861 to 1865).  West Virginia became one of the two American states during the Civil War.  Nevada became the second state.  West Virginia was the only state to come from another state, at this time, splitting Virginia.  West Virginia became a state June 20, 1863.  I think my favorite park is the New River.  This park encompasses over 70,000 acres of land along the New River.  This park has Natural and Cultural history.   This is my seventh time to travel here for pleasure and  absolutely adore this state, the people, and my best friends Roy and Franny Massey in Cottageville, WV.  Trust in the Lord with all your heart.  Lean not your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge and he will direct your path.  Why would God, who is a good, God allow bad things to happen to good people.  This question has been asked since the beginning of time as we know it.  Why would an ALL KNOWING GOD, ALL POWERFUL GOD, allow bad things to happen?   CS LEWIS once said:   WE DONT SO MUCH WANT A HEAVENLY FATHER, BUT RATHER A GRANDFATHER IN HEAVEN, WHO LIKES TO SEE PEOPLE ENJOYING THEMSELVES.   HIS PLAN FOR THE UNIVERSE WAS THAT A GOOD TIME WOULD BENHAD BE ALL (Paraphrased).  Far to often we look at pain and sorrow that others experience and we try to theologies about it.  We become angry with God and ask why, yet he's a loving Father.  The Civil War ended in 1865.   The Civil War claimed more lives than any other war or conflict historically. National cemeteries began after Civil War.  In 1860 Military Chaplains began overseeing  memorial services and prayer recitation.  Graves were laced with flowers and memorial items.  Historical records show  (Waterloo, New York 1866) the Federal government declared a Day of Memorial. In Waterloo this was a community event where businesses closed.  Residents decorated graves of fallen soldiers with greenery and American flags.  What is tap dance?  Its a dance characterized by tap shoes striking the floor as a type of percussive rhythm.  Musical Theatre uses Broadway tap. What is Clogging?  It is a form of step dance.  This is characterized by wooden sole clogs.  Very inflexible.   It was developed intricate forms in Wales North of England. What is River Dance?   This is a popular stage dance show based on Irish dance called step dance.  This involves quick feet movements as arms remain side by side.  Michael Flatley is probably the best known performer in Lord of the Dance.  Going into the second season at the 53rd episode this is titled LURCH AND THE HARPSICHORD. In all actuality Ted Cassidy was a very accomplished organist.  He also played the character THE THING.  Lurch performs the song EVERYBODY HURTS.  The Addams Family lasted for two seasons in the 1960s.  Even over fifty years later, it captures the attention of the American public with the iconic finger snapping rhythm.  The Whippoorwill bird is an Eastern bird.  It is medium sized and belongs to the NIGHTJAR family.   The bird has a rounded head and stout chest.  It's unique camouflage pattern is gray and brown motting.  This bird is considered endangered.  When it twills it makes the sound WHIP-POOR-WILL hence the name.  These birds are nocturnal.  At night they chant their namesake WHIP-POOR-WILL.  They love spring and summer evenings.  They live in Eastern forestry.  They are found in deciduous pine forests.  The WHIP-POOR-WILL can chant 1008 WHIP-POOR-WILLS at a time.  During the day it sleeps standing on logs.
