The CANDY MAN was Sammy Davis, Jr. He had to make great strides to overcome racism to become a successful actor, dancer, vocalist, and comedian. As Davis became popular he refused to perform in clubs that practice racial segregation. He performed quite frequently in Miami and Vegas. His most popular recordings were I'VE GOTTA BE ME AND THE CANDY MAN. Davis was drafted into the Army during World War II. Davis joined the Rat Pack in the sixties. In 1964 he received a Tony Award for Golden Boy. He was very active in the Civil rights movement during the 1960's. His first chart hit in 1972 was THE CANDY MAN. He did variety television: CAROL BURNETT, ALL IN THE FAMILY, THE JEFFERSONS, and GENERAL HOSPITAL. In the eighties he toured with Minelli and Sinatra. He lived an amazing life 😍.
