THOUGHTS FOR YOUR MAY 28, 2022: THE HISTORY OF CHINESE MUSIC
Some of my online piano students ( Anshika and Pranavi) are studying from a Chinese Folk tune music book. Traditional Chinese folk tunes began 8000 years ago based on the discovery of a bone flute. Royal families had the privilege of enjoying music, made on chimes and bells (Historically Xia, Shang, and Zhou Dynasties). In Eastern China folk music was known as Nanyin or Nanguan. These songs were song and accompanied by Xiao or pipa. China has the earliest time stamp in making music. Musical instrument tradition from India and Asia were integrated into Chinese mainstream folk tunes. These traditions are celebrated with resonate sounds of instruments made from clay, animal skin, rock, clay, wood, bamboo, and silk.
